Robert M. Wright, PE

Bob Wright is Vice President and Practice Leader of the Municipal/Streetscape Practice at Urban Engineers at its headquarters in Center City Philadelphia. He has been in this position for the past 7 years and manages design and construction management projects both in the Philadelphia area and from Urban’s New York City office. He also serves as an instructor in Urban’s Training Institute and has taught short courses on several topics.

Prior to joining Urban, Bob held various positions at the City of Philadelphia Department of Streets over a 27-year career which culminated in his appointment as Chief Engineer and Surveyor, directing the Department’s transportation design efforts, and was involved in numerous projects.

Bob graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1979, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Urban Engineering. He is a registered professional engineer in four states. He is active in the Philadelphia Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Delaware Valley Section of the American Society of Highway Engineers, where he will be serving as Section President in 2014-15. He is also a member of the American Public Works Association, the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Women’s Transportation Seminar. For the Club, he chairs the Delaware Valley Engineers Week Committee, and serves as Assistant Secretary/Treasurer of the Philadelphia Engineering Foundation. He holds the membership grade of Fellow in ASCE and ITE.

Bob was born and raised in Philadelphia. When he is not working or editing newsletters, he enjoys exploring the history of the city and its transportation network (mostly through reading), gardening, tinkering around the house, walking, bowling, an occasional attempt at golf, and following the City’s major sports teams. He is a lifelong fan of the local college basketball scene.
