CLUB TO PARTICIPATE IN PHILADELPHIA SCIENCE FESTIVAL'S CARNIVAL ON THE PARKWAY - LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEER
For the fourth year, we will be sponsoring a booth this year at the Science Carnival on the Parkway, the culminating event of the Philadelphia Science Festival. The Carnival is a highly visible outdoor event that provides opportunity for exchange between children, teens, families and local scientists/engineers! This all-day affair will take place Saturday May 3, 2014. Our goal is to provide family-oriented science entertainment with a hands-on activity or an interactive demonstration to get kids excited about engineering! This is a great outreach opportunity to interact with kids and teens of all ages.

We are looking for participants to volunteer and join us as a society or as individuals at our booth. If participating as a society, we can incorporate signage that includes the name of your society. Volunteers can either be there all day or take a specific time slot when they are available. If you don’t wish to participate as a society, please make this information available to your members who may want to assist for part of the day or have suggestions or activities they would like to contribute.

Our booth will be called “What Do Engineers Do?” The Carnival and the Science Festival’s purpose is to offer something for everyone in hopes of sparking interest and involvement in the sciences so we are hoping to get a broad range of volunteers. If you are interested in participating or have any questions before making your decision feel free to contact Emily Scholl.

The 2014 Philadelphia Science Festival is a citywide collaboration that brings together nine exciting days, April 25-May 3, filled with events that showcase science and technology in everyday life. With 175 of the region‟s most influential institutions, museums and cultural centers working together, the Festival aims to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers by exploring the many ways that science and technology touch our everyday lives. Presented by The Dow Chemical Company and organized by The Franklin Institute, the Festival packs more than 100 events into nine exciting days at locations across the region, including restaurants, parks, breweries, libraries, museums and other neighborhood places, many of them free!

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Engineers' Club offers a variety of courses with the goal of meeting the continuing educational requirements of its members and the broader engineering community.  Information on the fall courses is now available. Remember that NJ PE renewal is due April 30, 2014. The professional development hour (PDH) value for each course is provided. It is the participant's responsibility to determine whether the course complies with the requirements of the registration or certifying agency. A certificate of completion will be provided to those completing the course. We will also maintain registration and attendance records. Pennsylvania does not approve courses or providers. We have been designated by New Jersey as an exempt provider of continuing professional competency credits.

Click here for more information on these multi-week evening course offerings or click each session title for more information.

We are also planning a two-hour seminar on engineering ethics, from 9:00 am - 11:00 am.  This course will be held twice, on April 22 and April 25.  Look for more details to come. This will satisfy New Jersey's PE renewal requirement for 2 PDHs in ethics (renewal due April 30).  Return to Top

JOIN US AT THE PHILADELPHIA SCIENCE FESTIVAL
As noted in the article above, the Club has reserved two booths for the Philadelphia Science Festival. We would like your society to join us, so we can present a multi-disciplinary view of engineering. This also allows your society to participate in the festival without having to take a whole booth for the entire day. Contact Emily Scholl for more information.

HAVE YOU UPDATED YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION WITH THE CLUB?
If you changed your society leadership in January, have you let us know your current contacts? We only send our emails to the key three to six people in each organization. AFFILIATE SOCIETIES - BROADEN YOUR PR EFFORTS
The Affiliate Society News section is an opportunity for the Affiliate Societies to publicize "out-of-the-ordinary" news items, such as hosting a national annual meeting of your society, a major / national award received by a member, or a major event.  This would not include routine meetings (they can be listed on the Joint Technical Society Calendar), student outreach events or scholarship information that can be posted on the Discover Engineering in Greater Philadelphia website, or local section awards (they can be recognized as part of the DVEW Affiliate Awards Recognition). We can include calls for nominations for awards that are not limited to members of your society. Send the URL for the information that is on your website to contact@engrclub.org and we will include a link to it (similar to the links below under "Additional Helpful Links") in the E-News.
