CLUB NEWS

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello to all members of The Engineers’ Club of Philadelphia, individual and corporate! I bring you tidings of great joy. First and foremost, this is a really short President’s message (see! Feeling more joyful already aren’t you?).

I’d like to congratulate the planning team for this year’s recent Multi-Society Meeting held on December 9 at the Doubletree in Philadelphia.   The turnout was great, as was the camaraderie and the program!  Kudos to the team and the ECP staff that makes it all happen.  We also had a very good technical session with local sections of the American Society of Landscape Architects and the American Water Resources Association on the geologic perspective on stormwater infiltration on December 12.  We look forward to working with all of the affiliate societies and other partners where we can to give our members opportunities to meet, share and collaborate with like-minded individuals in the region. So reach out to us if your group is planning a program that you think might have appeal to a wider audience. Remember, many hands make light work!

We also have a few items coming up next month that you should keep an eye out for. First up is the ECP’s Tour of the new Gerri LeBow School of Business building on the campus of Drexel University. The new LeBow building is a “Green Globes” certified building and features some innovative engineering features designed to improve operating efficiency, reduce the building’s environmental footprint and create a superior indoor environment. The tour is set for Thursday, January 16. More details can be found elsewhere in this newsletter and on the ECP website. Also in January is the annual Future City Competition set for January 25 (judges and volunteers will be needed!). A little further downstream is Engineers Week set for February 14 thru 22. Key events include the Awards Luncheon on Friday, February 14, the Young Engineers Social on Tuesday, February 18 and Celebration of Engineering Reception set for Thursday, February 20.

We look forward to seeing you at one, some or all of the events!

So get on with the shopping, wrapping, trimming and tasting that the season entails and have a safe, happy and joyful holiday! Return to Top

AFFILIATE SOCIETY NEWS

NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR AFFILIATE SOCIETIES
We're adding a new section to the E-News -- Affiliate Society News.  This section will be an opportunity for the Affiliate Societies to publicize "out-of-the-order" news items, such as hosting a national annual meeting of your society, a major / national award received by a member, or a major event.  This would not include routine meetings (they can be listed on the Joint Technical Society Calendar), student outreach events or scholarship information that can be posted on the Discover Engineering in Greater Philadelphia website, or local section awards (they can be recognized as part of the DVEW Affiliate Awards Recognition).  We can include calls for nominations for awards that are not limited to members of your society.  Send the URL for the information that is on your website to contact@engrclub.org and we will include a link to it (similar to the links below under "Additional Helpful Links") in the next E-News.
