PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
We are zooming along towards the end of 2013. Another one soon to bite the dust; and another one cues up. But there are is a stop or two still to go. Coming up soon (just as your turkey-delivered, tryptophan-induced sloth wears off) is this year’s Multi-Society Meeting. The event will be on December 9th, 2013 at the DoubleTree Hilton at Broad & Locust Streets in Philadelphia. Registration opens at 5:30 PM with a little networking and socializing. Dinner will begin at 6:30 PM. Follow the link for more info and to reserve your tickets!

Coming up in the new year, we have a tour of the new LeBow School of Business Building at Drexel University (January 16, 2014). The building is a high-performance, sustainable design meeting LEED Gold certification levels. The program will include a presentation on the green MEP systems which were designed by Dimitri J. Ververelli, Inc. Consulting Engineers of Philadelphia. Soon after that we will have Delaware Valley Engineers Week upon us and we look forward to a slew of quality programs and the opportunity to recognize and applaud the Delaware Valley Engineer of the Year and Young Engineer of the Year as well as scholarship and technical competition winners.

The driver for 2014 is innovation. The Engineers' Club will be looking to innovate in the programs and delivery options we present to you and we look forward to your help to keep us at the leading edge of the engineering community.

Have a great Thanksgiving holiday and we look forward to seeing you on December 9th and beyond! Return to Top

MULTI-SOCIETY MEETING  – December 9
Join the Engineers’ Club and our partner societies at the annual Multi-Society Dinner Meeting on December 9 at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Philadelphia. This is a good opportunity to kick off the holiday season by networking with engineers and other professionals that you might not normally see at your society meetings. The presentation on the US Open at Merion will discuss the myriad issues related to holding the a major golf tournament at an older, smaller course surrounded by a residential area and limited roadway access. Presenters include: Jamie Simmons, Manager of Technical and News Operations NBC 10: broadcast challenges; and Larry Howard, Officer and John Viola, Deputy Chief, Haverford Township Police Department: Township logistics, event management, and coordination with USGA, Merion Golf Club, and other local and state officials. We expect this presentation to satisfy the requirements for one PDH for PA and NJ professional engineers. More Information Return to Top

The Engineers' Club will be co-sponsoring this lunchtime professional development session on stormwater infiltration with the American Society of Landscape Architects, Eastern Section of PA-DE Chapter and American Water Resources Association, Philadelphia Metropolitan Area Section. Understanding the geology of the Philadelphia area and processes involved with groundwater recharge is critical to design of stormwater infiltration facilities.  The session will be Thursday, December 12 at the Municipal Services Building, 1401 JFK Boulevard, 16th Floor, Room Z, Philadelphia, PA.  Participation in this presentation entitles each attendee to one (1) PDH for PA and NJ professional engineers and (1) CEU for the landscape architects.More Information and registration Return to Top

AFFILIATE SOCIETY NEWS

NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR AFFILIATE SOCIETIES
We're adding a new section to the E-News -- Affiliate Society News.  This section will be an opportunity for the Affiliate Societies to publicize "out-of-the-order" news items, such as hosting a national annual meeting of your society, a major / national award received by a member, or a major event.  This would not include routine meetings (they can be listed on the Joint Technical Society Calendar), student outreach events or scholarship information that can be posted on the Discover Engineering in Greater Philadelphia website, or local section awards (they can be recognized as part of the DVEW Affiliate Awards Recognition).  We can include calls for nominations for awards that are not limited to members of your society.  Send the URL for the information that is on your website to contact@engrclub.org and we will include a link to it (similar to the links below under "Additional Helpful Links") in the next E-News.
