Rebuildling Pennsylvania Infrastructure

On May 14, 2012, the American Society of Civil Engineers, Philadelphia Section, Drexel University, and the Engineers' Club of Philadelphia invited two of our elected officials who have taken strong stands on the importance of America's infrastructure to discuss their ideas and proposals to develop and stimulate direly-needed investment in our infrastructure. About 60 local engineers and students turned out to hear what the speakers had to say and ask questions on how we can enhance transportation funding.

The session was held at Drexel University, in the Gallery Room of the Main Building and was moderated by C.R. "Chuck" Pennoni, Chairman, Pennoni Associates, Inc., who is a past president of all three of the sponsoring organization.

Ann Tomalavage and Bob Wright welcomed everyone on behalf of ASCE and ECP and Bob presented Our Crumbling Infrastructure, which outlines the dire state of our infrastructure and the importance of investing in our infrastructure.

Hon. Michael Stack, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Senate and Hon. Allyson Schwartz, United States Congress, House of Representatives then presented their remarks, including the efforts in their respective legislative bodies to get the needed funding. Both Sen. Stack and Rep. Schwartz encouraged the attendees to contact their own state and federal legislators to let them know of the importance of investing in infrastructure. Thanks to the efforts of Sen. Stack, the meeting was videotaped and is available on his website.
