Estimating Construction by the Numbers

The American Society of Civil Engineers' Construction and Transportation and Urban Development Groups and Engineers' Club of Philadelphia will be co-sponsoring a lunch and learn on Estimating Construction by the Numbers on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, 12:00 noon - 1:30 pm. This session will be presented by Jeffrey D. Given, PE and held at Urban Engineers, Inc., 530 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA

Mr. Given will present estimating techniques utilized by contractors in today's market place. A discussion on the importance of a detailed and defined scope of work will be examined and how the lack of the same can lead to vast cost ranges. A full view into the direct expenses that drive the project costs will be discussed, including labor, material, equipment and the use of specialty subcontractors. Soft and indirect costs will be examined such as supervision, overhead, schedule, owner’s payment terms, and unique project conditions. The impact of current trends in the construction industry will be considered and how they have impacted bid proposals.

Participation in this presentation entitles each attendee to one (1) PDH for Pennsylvania and New Jersey Professional Engineer continuing education requirements. PDH certificates will be distributed at the end of the presentation.

A light lunch (sandwiches) will be served starting at 12:00 noon.
