Stan will present his research on technology and policy trends related to automated vehicles. Vehicle automation is just one of many technologies disrupting the transportation sector, including vehicle connectivity, electrification and shared use, which are evolving on separate but converging paths and enabled by rapid advances in information and communications technology.

Course Objectives

The seminar will provide students with a general understanding of automated vehicle enabling technology, history, applications and its relationship to parallel emerging transportation technologies. Give insights to automated vehicle industry trends and local, state and federal government policy.

Stan Caldwellis Executive Director of both the Traffic21 Institute and the USDOT-designated Mobility21 National University Transportation Center at Carnegie Mellon University. These research centers support faculty and students, from across the university, in technology-focused transportation education and research with an emphasis on real-world deployment with public and private partners. Stan’s research focus is disruptive transportation technology policy, he is the curator of the industry-recognized online Smart Transportation Dispatch, and he is chair of the Intelligent Transportation Society of America’s Emerging Technology Committee.
