Description:
The Schuykill Avenue Research Building (SARB) at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is a state-of-the-art wet-bench research building built upon an existing single-story podium designed for a much different future structure. This presentation will discuss the design challenges involved in its construction including numerous transfer trusses, sloped columns, and structural retrofits that were necessary to produce this wonderful structure.

John Roach (SE, PE)Structural Engineer, Engineering Project Manager, CannonDesign
John Roach is a structural engineer and engineering project manager with CannonDesign. He received a BS and MS degree from SUNY Buffalo and is a licensed Professional Engineer in seven jurisdictions, including Pennsylvania. Over his career, John has worked on a wide range of project types with a focus on large, complex healthcare and scientific research facilities. John has been the SEOR and lead engineer for the CHOP SARB project since design began at the beginning of 2021.
