Susquehanna River Rail Bridge Project

(1 PDH)

As part of investing in the New Era of Rail, Amtrak is modernizing infrastructure along the Northeast Corridor (NEC). The Susquehanna River Rail Bridge (SRRB) is a 117-year-old, two-track bridge spanning the Susquehanna River between the City of Havre de Grace in Harford County, MD, and the Town of Perryville in Cecil County, MD. It is a critical link and the longest moveable bridge along the NEC. The aging bridge will be replaced with two parallel new structures to maintain future rail services across the Susquehanna River while providing improvements to capacity, trip time and safety for commuter, freight, and intercity passenger rail services.

This project is supported by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) through a $2.08B Fed-State NEC grant from the Federal Railroad Administration. During this presentation, the Project Team will overview this crucial transportation project including project benefits, design and construction challenges, and status to date. The team will also discuss innovations implemented to best optimize design, cost, schedule, and constructability for the Project.
