Franklin Square Station, located at its namesake square (7th & Race Streets) near the foot of the Ben Franklin Bridge in Center City Philadelphia, is planned to be reopened to PATCO riders early next year following a $30 million renovation.
The station originally opened in 1936 as part of the Camden-Philadelphia Bridge Line rapid transit service between Center City Philadelphia and Broadway (now the Walter Reed Transportation Center) in downtown Camden and was then absorbed into the PATCO High-Speed Line in early 1969.
Improvements to its civil, structural, mechanical and electrical systems, as well as work that will allow access in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are part of this project. Additional work encompasses roadway and sidewalk improvements on adjacent sections of Race Street.
