What does equity look like in practice? In the context of civil engineering, professional standards emphasize responsibilities related to public health, safety, and welfare. The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) Code of Ethics states that engineers should act with “honesty, impartiality, fairness, and equity.” Applying equity in practice can include evaluating how past decisions, design priorities, and resource allocation have affected different communities, and incorporating those considerations into current and future projects.
Our speakers will share project-specific case studies which highlight equitable design approaches and how these considerations can influence project performance and community-level outcomes. The session will include opportunities for audience participation through questions and collaborative discussion. Light dinner will be provided.
Our speakers include:
Christina Arlt, AICP (McCormick Taylor)
Manager, Planning & Communications
Mia Held (C&S Companies)
Senior Aviation Planner & Sustainability Consultant
