The presentation will explore the concept of cashless tolling (a.k.a., all-electronic tolling) and consider its merits, as well as the challenges of converting an existing toll system to cashless tolling, including those related to civil infrastructure, toll systems, operations, revenue, public outreach & education, workforce impacts, and legislation. A spotlight will especially be put on the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s on-going cashless tolling conversion program.
