Join DVRPC for a #BG2021 webinar entitled

With rising temperatures and a high percentage of impervious coverage, the region is experiencing unbearable heat. How are local governments helping their more heat vulnerable residents?

June 1, 2021 | 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM
1.5 AICP CM credits approved

The region’s high percentage of impervious coverage has resulted in unbearable heat impacting the quality of life particularly in areas where vulnerable populations—persons with disabilities, elderly, low income, among others—have borne the brunt of the ill effects. Panelists will discuss strategies to identify their most heat vulnerable residents and to respond to extreme heat events. DVRPC recently published a Municipal Implementation Tool brochure sharing what preventative actions local governments can take to reduce extreme heat in the built environment.

Moderated by the Honorable Valerie Arkoosh, MD, MPH, Chair, Montgomery County Board of Commissioners and member of the DVRPC Board.

Panelists include:

Adam Beam, AICP, Senior Research Analyst, Office of Energy and Climate Change Initiatives, DVRPC

Alexandra Skula, Community Preparedness Manager, Philadelphia Department of Public Health, Philadelphia, PA

Jon Lesher, Principal Environmental Planner, Montgomery County Planning Commission, Norristown, PA

Saleem Chapman, Chief Resilience Officer, Philadelphia Office of Sustainability, Philadelphia, PA

Check out DVRPC's new brochure to guide local governments in dealing with extreme heat.
