How to Effectively Handle Microaggressions

in the Workplace

Description:

Microaggressions are small (often subliminal) cues or signals that can cause others to feel devalued, excluded, or discouraged. Microaggressions can undermine trust, morale, productivity, and relationships in an organization.

They typically occur when people are perceived to be different in some way.But how do you address microaggressions in the workplace, when they oftentimes are carried out without one’s knowledge, as a consequence of implicit bias?

At the end of this presentation, you will be able to:

Explain what microaggressions are

Identify examples of microaggressions

Discuss how to respond to microaggressions

Describe ways an organization can acknowledge microaggressions in a healthy way or prevent them
